Whereas, the Town of Amherst will celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2018; and

Whereas, important information about the history of Amherst is often difficult to locate and is often not available for review by students, academicians and interested citizens; and

Whereas, an appropriate starting point for historical study would include a listing of the men and women who have served as elected officials in the Town of Amherst;

Now, therefore, be it resolved that a “200th Anniversary Celebration Work Group” be created for the purpose of collecting information relevant to the history of Amherst; and

Be it further resolved, that the initial collection of historical data shall include the compilation of a list of all elected officials who have served in the Town of Amherst, including the names of persons who have served as Supervisor, Councilmember, Town Clerk, Receiver of Taxes, Highway Superintendent, and Town Justice; and

Be it further resolved, that the information collected by the Work Group shall be posted on-line, with a link on the Amherst Town website; and

Be it further resolved, that the Information Technology Department shall assist the Work Group in the development of a web page or document, which may include indexed photographs as they become available; and

Be it further resolved, that the Work Group shall undertake to complete its efforts by December 31, 2017, prior to the start of the town’s bicentennial; and

Be it further resolved, that the Town Clerk with support from the Information Technology Department shall periodically update any list, web page or document that the Work Group may create, as new individuals are elected to serve our Town, and

Be it further resolved that the Work Group shall consist of the following individuals:  Councilmember Deborah Bruch Bucki; the Town Clerk or her designee; the acting director of the Information Technology Department or his designee; the director of the Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village or his designee; and our Town Historian, Mr. David Sherman, who is also the Managing Editor of the Amherst Bee.
